Having just stopped for a crew change, 66107 accelerates a short oil train away from Barnetby station on 19/12/08. New Freightliner 66957 passes under the iconic semaphores at Barnetby with an empty coal train on 19/12/08. 66079 passes through the centre platforms at Barnetby with another loaded coal service from Immingham on 19/12/08. 66018 passes the semaphores at Barnetby in very overcast and cold conditions with an empty coal train bound for Immingham on 19/12/08. Busy times at Barnetby - 66546 arrives with an empty coal train whilst oil and coal trains wait in the adjacent sidings for a clear path on 19/12/08. 66957 returns from Immingham with loaded coal hoppers and heads west through Barnetby past the East signalbox on 19/12/08. 66061 is one of many EWS 66's to appear on coal duties at Barnetby today (19/12/08). 66708 leads an empty GBRf coal train towards Barnetby on the slow line on 19/12/08. This side-on shot shows off the clear blue sky to good effect as 66563 passes with a Heavy Haul coal train at Doncaster on 17/12/08. In brilliant winter sunshine 66059 leads a well loaded intermodal train through Doncaster on 17/12/08. 66013 runs through platform 1 at Doncaster light engine on 17/12/08. Old and new - 57006 and 66578 at Ipswich stabling point on 16/04/07. More than likely this shot won't be possible within another year as the latest 66 arrivals will surely spell the end of the 57/0's. Torrential rain is evident in this photo and yet the rest of the day was blue skiea and sunshine! 66578 ploughs on regardless of the conditions as it leads its meagre load north away from Cholsey station on 25/06/08.

It is seen here, at speed, on the fast lines heading towards Didcot.

A rare break from coal and oil traffic at Barnetby - 66189 leads an empty rake of container flat wagons west on 02/01/07. The signalman earns his keep at Barnetby with coal heading towards Lincoln in the background and a central trains service to Grimsby about to overtake 66189 running light on 02/01/07. 66189 waits for a clear signal at Barnetby before proceeding to Immingham on 02/01/07. Nicely framed by the footbridge, and under ever-darkening skies, 66194 leads a fully loaded coal train through Barnetby on 02/01/07. Part of the WBBM pool, modified for the Scottish highlands, 66111 is a long way from 'home' at Rugby between duties on 26/10/06. 66121 makes a brief stop at Rugby with a very short (2 wagons!) Network Rail train on 27/10/06. The 19th July 06 was a bumper day for class 66 action at Barnetby with over 25 different locos in one afternoon! Here 66119 leads a westbound coal train that morning. On a sunny 19/07/06, 66116 flies through Barnetby with an empty coal train returning to Immingham for more loads. Under clear blue skies 66115 leads a coal train into Doncaster (01/09/06). Early afternoon on 01/09/06 sees the arrival of 66106 at Doncaster. 66115 arrives at Doncaster station on 24/10/06 with open flat wagons. In glorious mid afternoon sunshine on the shortest day of the year (21/12/06) 66102 leads a rake of coal hoppers south through Crewe. 66124 approaches Warrington at speed with the 6E57 bound for Drax power station (19/02/07). 66108 casts a lengthy shadow as it leads a long rake of coal hoppers through Barnetby on 07/04/07. Interestingly this loco is in the WBBM pool for Scottish highlands traffic! 66104 passes Ulceby Junction signalbox and over the level crossing with an enterprise working on 10/04/07. 66104 arrives at Doncaster with a rake of steel wagons, presumably bound for Scunthorpe (11/04/07). 66109 passes through Doncaster station light engine, heading north on 11/04/07. 66109 poses for photos at Doncaster with a rake of covered steel wagons in tow on 11/04/07. 66107 approaches Peterborough at speed with a northbound freight on 17/04/07. Yet another freight arrives at Peterborough for a crew change. This time it is 66115 at the head of a very long rake of hopper wagons (17/04/07). 66101 leads another EWS intermodal south past the village of Cholsey on 25/06/08.

A lineside shot of 66092 heading east, seen just east of Barnetby on 31/05/07. Unfortunately I was shooting towards the sun here which makes the image slightly darker than preferred. In heavy rain 66089 leads a rake of Mendip Rail wagons, presumably a class 59 duty, through Stratford station heading east on 19/11/07. 66090 almost managed to pass through Doncaster without me noticing - I just managed this shot from distance as it left the station area on 17/12/07. On the sunny afternoon of 25/06/08, an EWS intermodal races south through Cholsey station with a full load of containers in tow.

On 24/06/06 66518 leads a Freightliner coal train south through Doncaster. On an overcast and rainy day (01/08/06) 66510 leads one of the few coal trains of the day, westbound through Barnetby. On a fine September morning (01/09/06), 66505 leads a southbound 'liner through Doncaster having originated in Leeds. In perfect weather conditions, 66525 leads a coal train through Doncaster on 24/10/06. 66518 leads yet another coal train just beyond the station platforms at Doncaster, heading south, on 28/12/06. 66524 crawls up the slow line with more empty coal hoppers in need of a re-fill at Barnetby on 29/12/06. A lone photographer records the progress of 66514 as it leads an empty coal train east through Barnetby on 24/02/07. 66514 crawls around Barnetby East signalbox on 24/02/07 with more coal loads heading west. 66511 provides the traction for one of the endless numbers of coal trains that can be seen at Barnetby (03/03/07). 66511 returns a little later in the day after collecting coal at Immingham. It begins its journey west as it passes Barnetby on 03/03/07. The bright sunshine is evident here as it reflects from the bodyside of 66513 and its train of coal wagons at Barnetby on the afternoon of 03/03/07. 66514 recieves plenty of attention from photographers at Barnetby station as it leads a Freightliner coal train east in sunny conditions on 03/03/07. 66504 accelerates a sparsely loaded intermodal train through Doncaster on 17/03/07. 66504 seen heading north through Doncaster with a mainly empty intermodal train on 17/03/07. A break from all the coal trains - 66169 leads a short tank train east towards Immingham on 02/01/07. Under cloudy skies and in quickly fading afternoon light, 66155 flies through Barnetby with empty HHA's for refilling on 02/01/07. One of several light engine movements within the space of half an hour - 66160 leads 66080 through Doncaster station headed for the freight yard south of the station on 13/01/07. Double vision! 66199 creeps towards Warrington station but is rapidly overtaken by 66168 on the main line heading north on 19/02/07. 66168 heads north up the west coast main line through Warrington at the head of a lengthy rake of HAA coal hoppers on an overcast 19/02/07. 66175 leads the second convoy of the day through Doncaster, with 66069, 66035 & 60030 following (17/03/07). 66158 with the mysterious 'NOT BEN' in the window (I have no idea what this means!), as it leads an empty rake of HTA's through Barnetby, towards Immingham for refilling on 07/04/07. 66160 with a lengthy rake of coal hoppers snakes around Barnetby East signalbox on a warm and sunny 07/04/07. 66160 flies over the level crossing at Ulceby with empty HTA coal hoppers on 10/04/07. 66162 passes through platform 1 at Doncaster making for a difficult photo on 11/04/07. Were it not for the catenary pole in the way this would be a perfectly good shot! 66172 with a rake of hoppers snakes its way across the points at Peterborough on the morning of 16/04/07. 66164 leads a lengthy rake of MBA box wagons south through Warrington BQ station on 30/05/07. Under heavy rainclouds, 66166 arrives at Barnetby with empty coal hoppers on 31/05/07. It was forced down the slow line here as a track machine was occupying the fast line temporarily. 66166 joins in the parade of coal traffic heading west through Barnetby on 07/07/07. 66170 is not exactly challenged by the loading of this intermodal, with just 5 containers. It is seen here head on as it approaches the village of Cholsey on 25/06/08. 66152 drags a lightly loaded intermodal north through Cholsey station in fine weather on 25/06/08.

Just moments before boarding a Manchester bound train, 66562 makes an appearance with yet another coal train, as it heads south through Doncaster on 03/02/07. A closer view of 66562 with blinding sunlight reflecting off the cab windows as it powers a coal train through Doncaster on 03/02/07. 66562 crosses over the points at Doncaster with another trainload of coal for a power station on 13/01/07. 66562 approaches Barnetby on the final leg of its journey into Immingham with empty coal hoppers (24/02/07). After collecting coal from Immingham 66562 begins the journey west as it passes through Barnetby on 24/02/07. Despite appearances it is the 60 that has failed - 66562 pushes 60024 whilst pulling a coal train through Doncaster on 17/03/07.

Less than an hour previously a steam train had been through which boosted the number of photographers! A slightly misty and cold morning is clear to see here as 66560 adds some colour to the landscape at Barnetby with its loaded coal wagons on 03/03/07. 66566 heads right up the centre tracks at Doncaster with a coal train as 158757 picks up passengers (17/03/07). 66567 shunts off the stabling point to enter the fueling track at Ipswich in evening sunshine on 16/04/07. Another view of 66567 at the refueling point at Ipswich station on the evening of 16/04/07. Lunchtime at Ipswich sees 66568 resting at the stabling point in between intermodal duties on 16/04/07. 66568 runs on to the fueling point at Ipswich on 17/04/07. 66569 revs up at Ipswich stabling point, in the company of 57009 (16/04/07). 66569 departs the fueling point at Ipswich and heads to the intermodal yard a few hundred metres away (16/04/07). With 12 locos on the stabling point at Ipswich it was difficult to get a clear view of all of them - 66574 hides behind a pair of 86's on 16/04/07. After several other locos had left the stabling point at Ipswich a clear view of 66574 became possible on the afternoon of a warm 16/04/07. This view of the stabling and refuelling point at Ipswich shows 66568 in the foreground, with 66535 and 538 visible in the background on 17th Apr 07. This was my first and so-far only visit to Ipswich. 66552 passes through the centre tracks at Doncaster station light engine on 05/05/07. 66552 heads south from Doncaster, running light engine on 05/05/07. A very moody sky with a hint of sunshine on the horizon: 66559 leads empty coal hoppers through Barnetby on the afternoon of 07/05/07. 66559 thunders south through the platforms at Warrington BQ with a short rake of open wagons on 30/05/07. Unfortunately a passenger train got in the way of a head-on shot so had to make do with this angle; 66570 waits for a green light at Stratford on 19/11/07. 66551 was one of the first FL 66's I photographed back in 2006 but never managed a good shot of it before. I finally caught up with it again at Doncaster a year and a half later on 17/12/07. An unusual sight here - 66552 'Maltby Raider' which is a Heavy Haul loco, is seen at the head of the Leeds - Grain intermodal as it approaches Hoo Junction on 28/04/08. This is the only instance of a HH loco working an intermodal diagram that I have photographed!

A long rake of intermodal wagons slides into the freight lines at Doncaster station with a northbound working on 24/06/06. On an overcast Saturday, 66246 heads south through Doncaster with a full load of coal (24/06/06). At the height of summer (19/07/06) 66247 heads east through Barnetby with empty coal hoppers. Another offering from Barnetby on 19/07/06 was this eastbound rake of empty coal hoppers returning to Immingham, hauled by 66207. Under clear blue summer skies 66217 runs light engine through Barnetby to pick up a loaded coal train from Immingham on 19/07/06. 66209 rolls through Barnetby past the old semaphore signals on 19/07/06. On 21/07/06 66237 passes through Doncaster with a rake of Gypsum wagons. 66233 leads a coal train through Barnetby on 01/08/06 under heavy rain clouds. On 25/08/06 66229 drags a fairly lightly loaded intermodal through Doncaster. In late afternoon sunlight 66243 passes through Crewe station on 21/12/06. Another light engine at Doncaster on 28/12/06 was 66228, most likely heading to the yard south of the station. 66236 leads its coal train down the centre tracks at Doncaster on 28/12/06. 66236 rounds the iconic bend east of Barnetby on 29/12/06. 66247 joins the parade of coal trains with a loaded working heading west at Barnetby on 02/01/07. 66205 on the freight lines at Chesterfield with what is probably the 6Z72 Healey Mills - Margam scrap steel train on 20/02/07. 66238 is held for some time at a signal at Chesterfield with 4E69 Southampton - Wakefield intermodal - the driver phones up to find out what the delay is! (20/02/07) After a considerable delay at a red signal 66238 gets underway as it pulls away from Chesterfield on 20/02/07 with a lightly loaded intermodal train for Wakefield. 66219 with a long rake of hoppers as it ascends the 'flyover' tracks at Nuneaton on 21/02/07. Late in the afternoon of 21/02/07 66219 returns with its train of stone hoppers heading south through Nuneaton station. A closer view of 66219 as it returns to Nuneaton, this time heading south on 21/02/07. 66226 approaches Barnetby at speed on 24/02/07 with yet another coal train on 24/02/07. 66239 provides the power to a westbound coal train as it passes through Barnetby on 24/02/07. 66239 with a somewhat cryptic mesage in the drivers window! In late afternoon 66204 arrives at Ulceby with yet more coal wagons in need of a refill on 10/04/07. A common sight in the Barnetby / Immingham area at the moment, 66231 earns its keep dragging a coal train west, seen here at Ulceby station on 10/04/07. An almost side-on view of 66237 as it leads an intermodal train through the station area at Doncaster, heading north on 11/04/07. 66202 runs through platform 3 at Doncaster light engine, heading south, on 05/05/07. 66204 in late afternoon sunshine passes the iconic Barnetby semaphore signals with an empty coal train on 07/05/07. 66231 at the head of yet another coal train at Barnetby. Seen here under cloudy skies in late afternoon on 07/05/07. Later in the day 66203 reappears at Barnetby, this time with fully laden coal wagons and heading west, on the afternoon of 31/05/07. A classic train & semaphores shot from Barnetby. This time it is 66240 providing the interest as it leads an empty coal train east on 31/05/07. 66240 rolls through the North Lincolnshire countryside just east of Barnetby with a loaded westbound coal train, in spring sunshine, on 31/05/07. With 23 HTA hoppers, it was tricky fitting this whole train in one photo as it passes Barnetby on 31/05/07 with 66247 providing the power. I like this photo for the unusual angle - taken from the footbridge at Barnetby station, 66203 powers a coal train east on 31st May 07. This loco has since been moved to France. 66211 leads a short enterprise working through Barnetby on 31/05/07. EWS 66228 is held at a signal on the centre tracks at Doncaster on 17/12/07. Probably my best effort of the year to capture the classic 'semaphores' shot at Barnetby; 66231, which is now in France, is seen in ideal conditions at the head of a rake of empty coal wagons on 7th April 07. A nice passing shot here as an inactive 66207 watches on as 66058 leads more stone hoppers into Acton yard at days end on 25/06/08. 66207 lies idle in the sidings at Acton on 25/06/08.

Bardon Aggregates liveried 66623 makes an appearance at Doncaster station with a coal train on the morning of 01/06/07. 66614 takes charge of the Kingsbury - Immingham working on 07/06/06, seen here at Barnetby. 66610 runs light engine to Immingham, through Barnetby, to pick up the Kingsbury bound oil tanks on 19/07/06. The Immingham - Kingsbury oil train is hauled by 66610 on 19/07/06. 66608 crawls into Barnetby with a long rake of oil tanks from Kingsbury on the final leg of the journey into Immingham on 19/07/06. 66619 at Barnetby on 01/08/06 with Kingsbury - Immingham oil tanks. 66605 passes through Doncaster station on 25/08/06. At the end of a busy spell for freight, 66606 makes an appearance at Doncaster on 28/12/06, heading north. With the main line clear 66622 pulls away from Doncaster (28/12/06). A nice and clean looking 66622 stops to wait for an HST to clear the main line at Doncaster (28/12/06). A shot of 66602 just as it comes into view around Barnetby East signalbox with a westbound coal train on 02/01/07. A slightly unusual sight - 66602 on a coal train at Barnetby (02/01/07). This is normally the reserve of a 66/5 due to the relatively low tonnage. 66617 drags the 6M00 Immingham - Kingsbury oil train round Barnetby East signalbox on 02/01/07. 66601 manages to temporarily block all 4 main lines with its coal loads at Doncaster as it weaves across the tracks towards the Sheffield line (13/01/07). Another view of 66601 'The Hope Valley' as seen at Doncaster on 13/01/07. Interestingly the letter 'o' in the nameplate is blue! 66601 is in charge of one of a large number of freightliner coal trains seen at Doncaster on 13/01/07. 66618 brings up the rear of a double light engine movement (with 66565 on the front) at Doncaster on 13/01/07. A triple light engine movement led by 66613 (with 66548 & 66531), on 03/02/07. This is probably the Leeds - Doncaster weekly light engine movement in preparation for engineers trains later in the day. 66607 charges through Chesterfield with the 6H80 Ratcliffe - Tunstead on 20/02/07. The welcome sight of a 66/6 on coal (instead of a 66/5) - 66612 takes charge of a rake of loaded HHA coal hoppers at Barnetby on 24/02/07. 66625 & 66583 at Mount Pleasant, Ontario on 05/03/07 en route to the UK. As luck would have it a convoy of 66's came through just before my train arrived so I was on the wrong platform for the ideal shot. 66608 leads 66519 and 66607 through Doncaster on 11/04/07. The nameplate on the side of 66618, seen at Peterborough on 17/04/07. 66618 rests at Peterborough station with a rake of open wagons on 17/04/07. Just 4 months old - 66624 rounds the curve behind Warrington's Arpley yard with a loaded coal train on 30/05/07. The Kingsbury - Humber empty oil train is seen here about half a mile east of Barnetby on 31/05/07, with 66620 in charge. One of the highlights of 2007 was seeing Bardon blue 66623 on a coal train at Doncaster on 1st Jun, less than 4 months after arriving in the UK. The increasingly common sight of a 66/6 on a coal train - 66603 is on coal duties at Barnetby on 07/07/07. In mid afternoon, and in summer sunshine, 66603 leads another loaded coal train away from Immingham and through Barnetby on 07/07/07. One of three 66/6's to make an appearance that day and the only one I could get a decent shot of: 66616 leads a coal train south through Doncaster on 17/12/07. Pretty much the last 66 photo taken in 2007, 66607 is seen at the head of a very long 6M00 Humber - Kingsbury oil train on 21st Dec. It makes an effective photo here as the train snakes behind the signalbox and disappears into the distance. 66616 pulls away from Acton yard with a very long aggregates train whilst 59103, in the background, awaits a new traincrew before heading east (20/06/08). With a Freightliner coal train receding into the distance, 66138 leads a fully loaded EWS train west at Barnetby on 07/05/07. 66134 slows down for a crew change at Warrington BQ with a southbound enterprise service on 30/05/07. 66126 races through the centre tracks at Barnetby with empty coal hoppers bound for Immingham, in need of refilling! (31/05/07) New and not-quite-so-new; just as 185135 departs Barnetby for Cleethorpes, 66126 passes by in the opposite direction with hundreds more tonnes of coal (31/05/07). The countryside is noticably greener than when I have taken this shot in the winter months - 66145 leads a slow moving coal train past the signalbox at Barnetby East on 31/05/07. 66142 at the head of a matching set of EWS hopper wagons, seen at Clapham Junction on 12/11/07. 66126 at the head of a southbound coal train at Doncaster on 17/12/07. 66145 is held on the freight only lines at Doncaster station awaiting clearance onto the ECML on 17/12/07. 66133 comes flying through Barnetby with freshly loaded coal wagons heading west on 21/12/07. 66139 approaches Hoo Jn on 28/04/08 with a lengthy rake of mixed wagons. 66140 is stabled in the sidings at Acton Mainline on 01/07/08.
